The Delhi Commission for Women summoned the officials of Uber cab company on Tuesday. While demanding closure of the cab company, DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said the commission asked Uber the criteria it followed while employing its drivers.
“When we asked them that on what basis they recruited such driver, they told us that the driver was eligible for driving. He had driving license and character certificate. They also admitted they failed to install GPS facility in the cab but run the agency as per the guidelines set by police and transport authority,” said Shukla. The DCW has now demanded the closure of the company.
Meanwhile, Uber’s India manager Gagan Bhatia called the incident horrific and apologised for not maintaining proper records of the drivers.
