The Delhi Commission for Women has issued a show-cause notice to St Stephen’s Principal Valson Thampu asking him to explain that why no action was taken against the professor accused of sexual harassment.
Thampu has been given a week’s time to reply to the notice. Based on the observation by DCW, the college did not complete the inquiry within its stipulated time of 90 days as per the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act. The DCW accused the college of barring the complainant from accessing the research material for her course. DCW in its notice has claimed that the college has not provided any relief to the complainant as mandated by law.
The DCW accused Valson Thampu of personal vendetta against the complainant of sexual harassment on the basis of Thampu’s Facebook post where he in support of the professor had questioned that how a man with 85 per cent disability can sexually harass a woman.
