Dark days for Noida, Gzb, 8-10 hour power cuts daily

Normal life in Noida and Ghazibad have been hit severely by power cuts ranging from eight to 12 hours every day.

Numerous outages have been reported over the past few days in the satellite cities. The situation was worse on weekend as residents of various sectors claimed massive power outages during the day and night hours.

The industrial belts in the cities are also facing scheduled power cut of around four hours daily.
The residents have blamed the ruling Samajwadi Party of avenging its defeat in recently-held Noida by-polls, which was won by a BJP candidate. They also alleged that supply of water has also been affected.
Meanwhile, the officials of electricity department have stated that the state is going through a power crisis.

While the power demand in Noida has peaked above 1,110 MW, the supply stands at a paltry 850 MW.   The worst-affected are the rural areas of Noida and Greater Noida where electricity is supplied for only eight to 10 hours.

In Ghaziabad, the power supply varies between 850 MW to 1,000 MW as against the required demand of nearly 1,500 MW. The residents of Govindpuram, Vasundhara, Vaishali, Indirapuram, Raj Nagar, Sahibabad, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar are reeling under severe power crisis as Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has failed to meet the surging power demand.

Power cuts in Noida’s Phase  — I, II and III and Greater Noida have also left industrialists fuming.
A senior official from power department said that it is not getting enough electricity from UPPCL. According to a senior official of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a subsidiary of UPPCL, ‘We have limited number of power sub-stations that are incapable of supplying enhanced power. We are not getting additional electricity from UPPCL.’

He further added that the crisis is likely to end once supply starts from the two power sub-stations currently under construction.
