Dark days ahead for Delhi as power outages continue

Despite several instructions from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to all power distribution companies that outages should not be more than one hour, consumers are facing acute power cuts in various areas of the capital.

BSES Yamuna power Limited and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) issued planned scheduled power cuts in respective areas.

BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) will not be able to provide electricity from 26 May to 28 May in more than 112 localities. These planned scheduled power cuts would be lasting for two to four hours at a stretch. TPDDL also will not supply electricity on 26 May and 27 May in more than 12 areas. It is interesting to note that in the name of maintenances, Delhi consumers are facing power outages since 14 January. Senior BJP and Congress leaders slammed discoms for deliberate outages to save power.

The BSES’s spokesperson confirmed that planned scheduled power cuts were over in April. According to latest information, BYPL will have to cut off power due to replacement of burnt sockets and lugs, revamping of metering, earth terminal checking and load balancing on light tension wire network and overall maintenance etc.

In BYPL run areas, residents will have to face major power cuts lasting for two to four hours since 26 May till 28 May in areas such as Dilshad Garden, Darya Ganj, Karawal Nagar, Karkardooma, Krishna Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Mayur Vihar Phase-1,2 & 3, Nand Nagari, Pahar Ganj, Patel Nagar, Shankar Road and Yamuna Vihar etc.

TPDDL’s spokesperson repeatedly claimed that planned scheduled power cuts have been stopped. Meanwhile, in 11 areas receiving electricity from TPDDL, power cuts are expected to run up to a maximum of eight hours.

In Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) -run areas, residents will have to face major power cuts lasting for three to eight hours since 26 May to 27 May including areas like Mangolpuri, Narela and Shalimar Bagh.
