The stolen items included jewellery and cash worth over Rs 15 lakhs. Even after 24 hours of the burglary, Delhi Police have failed to identify the accused who are still at large.
On Saturday morning, the family of Ravinder Kumar Sharma (54), deputy manager at Mother Dairy, visited his brother-in-law’s house in Faridabad to celebrate ‘bhai duj’. In the meantime, Sangeeta Sharma (48) got a call from one of her neighbours who informed her about the burglary.
It was learnt that around 270 grams of gold jewellery, 8 kg silver coins and utensils, around Rs 1 lakh cash and other valuables including the official’s laptop containing confidential data and a mobile phone was burgled by the unidentified persons.
The matter came to light when the Ravinder’s daughter returned home at 2 pm and found the windows of the living room open and the lock of the main door tampered with. A PCR call was made and a crime team along with forensic experts reached the spot.
The house was located just a few steps away from Manasoravar Park police station. More than 157 motor vehicle thefts, 34 robberies, four murders, 52 thefts have been reported at this particular police station this year.
The burglars managed to enter the house from a shaft in the washroom. They broke open the almirah and the lockers with the help of tools kept in the house.
‘On prima facie, it seems someone known to the victim’s family is involved in the burglary as the accused were well aware where the jewellery, cash and the tools were kept. Before they left the house, they also removed the fingerprints,’ a police official said.
It was also observed that the maid had visited the family on Saturday despite the latter giving her a leave for ‘bhai duj.’
When police visited the maid’s house on Sunday evening, it was found that her address did not exist and nobody knew her in the neighbourhood.
Even though the family had mentioned a few names on whom they have suspicion, the cops have failed to question any of them yet. A case under Sections 454 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
