Raju alias Bajji, 25, was arrested on Thursday afternoon near Nizamuddiun Railway Station in south Delhi, police said, adding: ‘He is a vagabond of Paharganj area.’
Bajji was among eight people who raped the 51-year-old Danish tourist at knife-point near New Delhi Railway Station, after she sought directions to her hotel in Paharganj.
Two persons arrested in connection with the gang rape were on Thursday remanded in police custody for three days by a Delhi court.
Mahender alias Ganja and Mohammed Raza were arrested late on Wednesday evening and were produced before additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sudhanshu Kaushik, who allowed the custodial interrogation of the duo till 20 January after the police said their quizzing was necessary to apprehend six others involved in the crime.
Investigators said eight accused, who are vagabonds, had allegedly gang-raped and looted the Danish woman at knife-point on 14 January night.
‘...Since the recovery is to be affected and remaining co-accused are yet to be arrested, so the accused persons are remanded in police custody till 20 January,’ the court said.
Police had sought seven days remand of the accused, saying they have to recover looted articles. However, the court said the police should try to catch them in three days. ‘If you (police) are not able to nab them, then we will think about it on 20 January,’ the judge said.
Public prosecutor said that all the absconding accused are vagabonds, who do not have permanent addresses, therefore, it would be difficult to arrest them in three days.
The police have booked the accused persons under sections 376 (2)(G) (gangrape), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 392 (robbery) of the IPC. The victim, who had come to India on January 1, lost her way to her hotel in Paharganj on Tuesday following which she approached a group of six men asking for directions.
They took her to a secluded place, robbed her of her belongings and took turns to rape her at knife point, she told the police.
