Dalits stage demonstration for reservation

A massive demonstration was organised on Monday by All India Confederation of SC/ST at Jantar Mantar, demanding punishment for the culprits responsible for dishonouring B R Ambedkar by publishing his cartoon.

Around thousands of delegates from all over country had participated in the agitation. An effigy of Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal was also burnt at Parliament Street. The members of the Confederation have also submitted a memorandum of demands to President and Prime Minister.

The Chairman National Commission for SC, PL Punia, Vice-Chairman, Rajkumar Verka were among other prominent leaders who addressed the gathering and assured that they would raise the issues of SC/ST community in the Parliament.

A R Joshi, Chief Patron of Confederation, said, 'We demand that the culprits responsible for dishonouring Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb B R Ambedkar by publishing his cartoon, should be penalised. The medals and honour given to the cartoonist concerned should be taken back.'

Ashok Kumar, Acting Chairman has demanded that Reservation Act should be enacted and should be kept in the 9th Schedule of Indian Constitution. The reservation of SC/ST communities should be increased in the ratio of their present population from 22.5 per cent to 32 per cent.

The members have also threatened that if the government did not take appropriate actions, then the agitation would be extended to states, districts and tehsils. A 'Maha Rally' of lakhs of people would also be organised on 26 November at New Delhi against the anti SC/ST policies of the government.
