Dalit women protest outside Haryana CM’s residence in Delhi

A large numbers of Dalit women on Sunday protested outside the residence of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana chief minister, for demanding the arrest of a village head and his son over the alleged gangrape of four minor girls.

The women demanded immediate action against the village head and his son ‘who were directly involved in the rape and eviction of 400 families in Bhagana village’, said a statement from the Bhagana Kand Sangharsh Samiti.

Hooda’s residence is situated at Pandit Pant Marg in Central Delhi and the protestors were insisting that they were unable to trust the local police in the matter and added: ‘Now, we have decided to talk to our CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and seek his intervention in the matter so that
strict action can be made against the accused,’ said Jamuna Devi, one of the protestors.

The four school-going Dalit girls were allegedly kidnapped and raped on 23 March by upper caste men in Bhagana.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Hooda, demanding the arrest of the village head and his son along with others whose names have not been included in the police complaint.
