Cylinder blast claims 7-yr-old’s life

A seven-year-old boy was killed in a cylinder explosion that took place at Outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Friday.
The blast took place when the victim identified as Ranjeet was watching television at his <g data-gr-id="38">residence,</g> while his mother, Champa Devi was cooking in the kitchen. Leaving the utensil on the stove, she went out of the kitchen to drink water. Upon <g data-gr-id="37">returning</g> she smelled gas leakage.
However, before she could react, the cylinder exploded.
According to the police, Champa managed to run out of the house following the blast, but her son got stuck inside. The first floor, where the explosion took place was set ablaze. Locals rushed to the spot to douse the flames and made a call to the fire department, following which <g data-gr-id="39">fire-tenders</g> reached the spot and rescued Ranjeet.
“It took an hour to bring the fire under control,” an official in the fire department said.
The victim was taken to the nearby private hospital, where he underwent treatment and was later shifted to Lok Nayak hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon.
After the death of her son, Champa Devi accused the gas providers Indane of negligence.
The police have registered a case based on Ranjeet’s mother’s statement. A case of negligent of conduct has been registered at the Narela Police Station and the matter is under probe.
The victim’s father, Ashok works as a mason and the family lives in Bawana’s JJ Colony.
