Curfew relaxed in Manipur’s riot-hit district

Curfew was relaxed on Friday in riot-hit areas of Manipur's Churachandpur district to enable <g data-gr-id="13">resident</g> to buy essential commodities, an official said. “The curfew was relaxed for eight hours from 5 am to 1 pm so that people could buy essential commodities,” said Churachandpur District Magistrate Lunminthang Haokip.
“There has been no report of fresh violence. We are keeping a close watch on the situation,” he said. However, internet services continued to remain suspended.
The curfew has been imposed since Monday night, after a mob went on rampage, and set the residences of Congress legislators, including that of Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Outer Manipur MP <g data-gr-id="15">Thangsoi</g> <g data-gr-id="16">Baite</g>, on fire. They were protesting against the passage of three bills by the state Assembly.
