Sketching life experiences, Sumedha Sah imprints moments from her life in a small notebook using ink and water colours. Her notebooks travel along, wherever she goes. Amongst those artworks, she has selected forty sketches, including the wonderful illustrations from her recent travels, to put on display in an exhibition ‘The Umbrella Bar’ in the capital.
Her artwork is mostly about the daily experiences and thoughts she encounters. Having no formal training in art, she is inspired by many artists. She doesn’t have a particular style because she says ‘I am learning everyday.’ Being born and raised in Nainital, a small hill station in Uttarakhand has contributed alot to her world view.
As a child, she would sit for hours and observe things around her – a butterfly, bird or bee- everything drew her into the world of art.
She indulges in drawing the everyday and mundane things that usually go unnoticed and maintains a blog. This showcase of her works includes portraits, cartoon characters, architectural drawings, still life and others. Each of her illustrations comes with stories about why she choose to draw them. Doodling is her passion and a desired break from reality, and she believes it to be a great way to self-discovery. Sometimes unknowingly scribbling on a paper reveals a hidden truth to her, believes the artist.
With the proceeds from this exhibition, she wants to help the recent flash flood victims in her home state, Uttarakhand. If you happen to miss out on the first round of exhibits in Cafe turtle, Greater Kailash, head over to Khan Market.
