Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Rajesh Garg, on Tuesday, alleged that during the government formation, he along with other MLAs had received calls offering money to support the BJP with Arvind Kejriwal’s consent. He also alleged that all the calls were made from unknown numbers. The ex-AAP MLA further said that he had also lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
Garg claimed that the police had arrested a person upon his complaint of receiving fake calls from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s office, offering him Rs 10 crore, who was later released on AAP’s intervention. “During the initial phase of government formation, I got calls from someone who claimed to be calling from Arun Jaitley’s office offering Rs 10 crore to support BJP.
“I took a screen shot of the number and lodged a police complaint. The person was arrested. Then, I got a call from Sanjay Singh, asking me to withdraw the complaint. I didn’t withdraw, but they managed to get him released,” he alleged.
Garg further claimed that all calls during that period were made with party chief Kejriwal’s “consent from private and unknown numbers”.
The former MLA from Rohini also claimed that several other AAP MLAs had raised the issue of getting fake calls from Jaitley and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s office, during a meeting of party legislators.
Garg had recently accused the Delhi Chief Minister of trying to poach six Congress MLAs to form the government in Delhi last year, leading to his suspension from the party on March 16.
He had recorded a telephonic conversation between him and Kejriwal, which later surfaced and was circulated in media.
In October last year, he had questioned Kejriwal about the internal party democracy and also on whether or not, he should have consulted people on conducting fresh polls in Delhi.
Bhushan, Yadav may form new party
Dissident AAP leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav on Tuesday maintained suspense over their future plans but did not rule out forming a political party after taking views of volunteers and well-wishers supporting them. Wrathful over the way Kejriwal was running the party, Bhushan said he and Yadav will have detailed discussions with their supporters from across the country at a meeting on April 14 which has been convened to channelise the positive energy of those AAP members who “felt betrayed” by the current leadership.
