Rs 22.5 crore cash van heist
Pardeep Shukla, working with the Security and the Intellience Services (SIS) fled away with a cash of Rs 22.5 crore in South-East Delhi’s Okhla area on November 26. Shukla hatched the conspiracy because he was not properly paid by the management. After the gunman got down from the van to attend nature’s call, taking the advantage of the situation, Shukla, the driver, fled away with the van and unloaded the cash boxes. It took barely 12 hours for Delhi Police to crack the case and Shukla was arrested with the stolen amount.
BSF Aircraft crash
In a tragic incident on December 22, a charted plane of Border Security Force (BSF) crashed within five minutes it took off from IGI Airport. All the ten people on broad including two pilots of a chartered aircraft were killed when the plane crashed outside the boundary wall of IGI Airport. It was a Beech Superking B – 200 aircraft with VT-BSA registration. The plane, a twin engine turboprop, took off at 9.45 am for Ranchi and went down moments later as the pilot was unable to gain altitude. He tried to fly back to the airport for an emergency landing but crashed 50 metres short of the runway.
Turkman Gate roadrage
Shahnawaz (38), was headed home on April 6 after a family wedding when his motorcycle grazed a car near Delhi’s famous Turkman Gate. For 15 minutes Shahnawaz was beaten with iron rods by five men who were in an i20 car. Two children, 13 and nine-years-old, stood wailing and begging bystanders as five local strongmen mercilessly beat their father to death over a traffic quarrel. The accused were later arrested.
Meenakshi Murder
In July, a 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death by two men in Delhi’s Anand Parbat locality for resisting eve-teasing. Meenakshi, a class XI student was brutally stabbed on her face, chest and stomach by the duo, against whom she had earlier filed a molestation case. The two men, who are brothers, were later arrested by the police and charged with murder.
Uzbekistan Double murder
The murder of two women hailing from Uzbekistan has opened a pandora’s box as there is a high possibility that a large number of women from Uzbekistan and Russia are victims of human trafficking and are allegedly being forced into prostitution rackets running in the city. Shakhnoza Shukurova, who was murdered in September was later burnt in Haryana to hide her identity. A missing complaint that was filed in Delhi was later converted into a kidnapping case and after two-months of investigation, one Gagan was nabbed. He told police that he killed Shukurova after the instructions of Naaz, another Uzbek woman over some monetary issues. Later, Naaz was also killed by Gagan in October to avert his arrest.
EWS scam
Delhi Police Crime Branch busted Economic Weaker Section (EWS) fake certificate scam and arrested as many as ten persons including two women in the case. The accused persons managed to get more than 50 admissions under the EWS category in reputed private schools using the fake documents to get original EWS certificates for the children of people who belong to upper-middle class. The Director of Education, former directors, chairman, principals of the schools were also found involved in the scam that were helping the accused persons in procuring the certificates and admissions with an ease.
Corporate Espionage
After Delhi Police Crime Branch got a tip-off from the ministry that highly classified government documents from Coal, Power, Defence, Forest and Environment Ministries were leaked, the names of corporate houses like Jubiliant Energy, Reliance ADAG, Essar and Cairns India cropped up. So far around 16 persons including a former business journalist was nabbed by the police. The lower rung working in these particular ministries were assigned to procure the classified documents. Two FIRs were also registered under the sections of trespassing, criminal conspiracy, forgery and fraud.
Murder in Jail Van
In August, the two men from the Neetu Dabodia gang were put in the jail van carrying seven members of their bitter rivals, the Neeraj Bawana gang, including Bawana himself. Minutes after the van left the Rohini Courts for Tihar jail, Bawana and his men pounced on the duo, strangling them with barehands and stomping over their faces with such viciousness that one of the victims had an eye gauged out. Shockingly, the killings took place inside the jail van with Delhi Armed Police personnel looking on helplessly.
Gang-rape with girl in Greater Noida
A 15-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped for over a week, shot twice and dumped into a well to die in Greater Noida in December. But she survived. The girl was kidnapped from outside her house in West Delhi on November22 and was repeatedly raped inside an abandoned farmhouse in a village in Greater Noida. While she tried to escape, she was shot at on her chest and abdomen by three persons and was dumped in a well thinking she will die. The girl was rescued by a passer-by who noticed her crying. All the three persons are now in police custody.
Atali clash
A mass of 2,000 people attacked Atali Village in Ballabgarh using swords, bricks, and fire as weapons of choice. An under-construction mosque was torched and the Muslims of the village fled. They believe that they were selectively targeted, citing instances such as the only shop burned in a vendor’s market belonging to Muslim merchants and only the homes of Muslims were looted. An estimated 500 Muslims were displaced from their homes, with many of them spending nights in Ballabgarh police station. The cause of the confrontation, locals say, is a dispute over a 30-year-old mosque land. In 2009 the Hindus of the village claimed that it was the property of the village Panchayat. The Muslims said the land belonged to the WAQF board.
Saudi Arabia diplomat held for gang-rape
A diplomat from Saudi Arabia was booked for gang-rape and wrongful confinement after a woman (44), and her daughter (20), from Nepal were rescued from the diplomat’s apartment in Caitriona Towers, Ambience Lagoon in Gurgaon. The women, who were hired as domestic help, were allegedly kept as “hostages for more than a month”. Their medical examination confirmed rape and sexual assault.
Shootout in Karkardooma court
A policeman was killed on December 22 after being hit by three bullets in a shootout at Karkardooma court complex. As soon as the policeman entered the court while escorting prisoner Chanu Pehelwan, a criminal from Seelampur, for a court hearing, four men opened fire at the prisoner. More than six bullets were fired in the shootout. In the incident, apart from the policeman, the accused along with a court clerk also suffered bullet injuries.
