ARMY PERSONNEL’S WIFE STABBED

Wife of an inspector of Army Postal Service was brutally stabbed several times by two unidentified persons inside their residence. The incident took place when the victim, identified as Urmila Devi (53), wife of Aibaran Singh, a resident of Netaji Nagar, was alone at her home on Thursday, said police on Friday.

A senior police official said, ‘Around 11 am on Thursday, a person knocked at the door and asked Urmila for a glass of water, but she refused. Half-an-hour later, the person knocked again and requested for water, claiming he was a soldier. Urmila then opened the door.’

She told police that soon after she opened the door, the person forcefully entered the house and started physically assaulting her. ‘He tore my clothes and I fell on the floor. He called up one Rakesh and asked him to bring a knife along with him. They both demanded alcohol. When I said there was none at the house, they asked for money,’ she added. Reportedly, the door bell rang at the time and the accused got nervous. One of them then stabbed the victim several times. They then fled from the spot using the back door. ‘I somehow managed to open the door to find my husband standing outside. He immediately took me to the nearby Base hospital,’ said Urmila.

The  deceased were identified as Sudesh (25) and Savita (23),’ said a police official.

RETIRED COLONEL PAYS FOR NOT GIVING WAY

There is a reason while Delhi is called the crime capital of the country, as was proved by yet another case of road rage in the city on Thursday. A retired army colonel was brutally assaulted by a government employee after the two became engaged in a heated argument. The incident ended with the victim making his way to the police station and demanding justice.

The incident occurred around 12.45 pm on Thursday, when the victim, 58-year-old S K Mahajan, a resident of Amar Colony was on his way to the market with his wife.

'The accused was driving his Ford Fiesta, bearing the license plate number 'DL 4CAF 8833'. The accused's car was behind Mahajan's and the accused allegedly kept honking to indicate his need to cross ahead. However, when Mahajan stopped the car and made way for him to pass, the accused also pulled up alongside and demanded more space. When Mahajan said that there was enough space for the other car to pass, the accused allegedly started abusing him and a verbal altercation started between the two,' a police official said. The official added, 'Mahajan reportedly told the accused to not use foul language in the presence of the ladies. On this, the accused stepped out of his car, grabbed hold of Mahajan's shirt collar and pulled him out of the car. Mahajan resisted but the accused started beating him.'  Thursday's incident, where a senior citizen was assaulted in the middle of a busy market, without anyone coming to his help, has again highlighted the lack of order and public support on the city streets. A case has been lodged by Mahajan at the Amar Colony Police Station, demanding that the accused be nabbed soon and put behind bars.

'I am amazed to see this kind of rude and violent behaviour in people in the city. I still can't believe all that happened to me and in front of my wife, who was sitting next to me. I simply asked the accused to behave in a proper manner and to respect the fact that I am a senior citizen and old enough to be his father. Instead of respecting me, he pulled me out of my car and physically assaulted me,' Thursday's victim, S K Mahajan said.

Mahajan added that the accused had also threatened to kill him. 'On the basis of the licence plate number which the victim has provided, the car was traced and found to belong to a government employee who works as an account officer.

The police team is searching for the accused. After the complaint was lodged by Mahajan, we conducted a medical examination of the victim at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. The reports of the medical examination have confirmed that he was assaulted,' a senior police officer said.
