The incident took place around 3.30 pm on Tuesday on National Highway 24 near Dasna jail in Ghaziabad when 38-year-old Dev Rath, a professor in Banke Bihari Dental College was returning to his Shashtri Nagar residence in Ghaziabad.

THREE HELD FOR ASSAULT ON DU STUDENTS

Three youths have been arrested for Sunday’s alleged assault on two students from the northeast at south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area.

According to police, on 19 August, a PCR call was made from Saini Basti of Kotla Mubarakpur area that a group of youths had fled after beating up two people in the area. The police team that went to investigate found that two Delhi University students, Yurngam and Wungshungmi from Manipur, were injured. The two were taken to AIIMS  and an investigation was initiated on their complaint.

According to the police, it was found that the building where the incident took place housed many students who lived there as paying guests.

A power failure on Sunday made all students living in that building go up to the terrace for some fresh air. Some local students were also present there. There was a dispute between the locals and the students from outside the city, following which they came down.

The landlord, who stays in the Vasant Kunj area, was also informed of the incident. The landlord directed his caretaker Shakeel to go up and look into the problem. When Shakeel, along with his companions Sushil and Sudesh, went to the complainant’s room to investigate the dispute, there were further arguments between the two and the three slapped the boys, as a result of which they suffered minor injuries.

‘Shakeel, Sushil and Sudesh have been arrested and a case registered against them,’ an official said.

FIVE COPS AMONG TWELVE INJURED IN MINOR CLASH

At least 12 people, including five police personnel, were injured in a clash between two groups on Tuesday, after a woman was allegedly molested on Monday by some people who were residents of the same area as the victim.

The incident was reported from west Delhi’s Nangloi area. Police personnel were deployed there after the molestation on Monday and again after Tuesday’s unrest.

According to sources, a girl was molested by a person who lives near her house in Nangloi on Monday. This led to a fight between the girl’s family and friends and the supporters of the man, who was accused of molesting her on Monday evening in Bhoot wali gali in Nangloi area.

But police reached the spot and the fight was stopped. On Tuesday evening, the two groups again started fighting over the same issue. The fight turned serious and heavy police personnel deployment had to be done on the spot to control the situation.
