Crime Branch busts fake trade scam, 4 held

Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested four notorious cheats, including three Nigerian nationals in a fake trade scam who had cheated many people across India on the false promise of making huge profits in the trade of biogenes (herb seed), used in the production of medicines for the treatment of HIV positive patients and other incurable diseases.

The accused have been identified as Jyoti (40), Abbas Aishat (22), Richardson Ohijeagbon (28) and Daniel Okal (28). 84 packets of biogenes have been recovered from their possession.

“Information was received in Crime Branch through Mahesh Mistri, a resident of Haryana about the racket. Accordingly, a team was constituted to nab the criminals,” Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) said.

The mobile numbers were analyzed and the accused persons have been nabbed from Select City Mall, Saket and Neb Sarai area of Delhi on Wednesday. During interrogation, they revealed that they used to target persons who are looking for a female friend on Facebook and were well off.

“First they trapped such persons through Facebook. After developing intimacy on friendship site, they used to lure that person in a fake trade scam in the name of Biognes (herb seed) The accused persons have cheated many innocent people not only in India but also several persons from other countries,” Yadav added.
