Crime Branch arrests man who jumped parole

Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a man who jumped parole and a notorious convict who used to target tourists and steal their articles after drugging them.

The accused has been identified as Ayaz Ahmed (26), a resident of Bihar. He was convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two year vide judgement of conviction dated May 13, 2014.

The accused Ayaz filed an appeal before the local court but the court dismissed the appeal in 2015 and upheld the sentence. He further moved to the high court where the court has dismissed his revision petition. While dismissing the revision petition, it was specifically observed “that the petitioner was caught red handed with stolen articles and was found in possession of stupefying substance apparently meant to be administered to the victims.”

Petitioner was also found in possession of unexplained foreign currency and possibility of some foreigner to be another victim at the hands of the petitioner cannot be ruled out. Perpetrators of such crime are rarely apprehended and in number of cases they got scot free. Innocent persons/tourists are the victims in such cases. These offences are pre-planned and intentional. Considering the facts and circumstances, the sentence awarded by the trial Court cannot be considered unreasonable”.

Later, the accused was granted parole by the Delhi High court for a period of four weeks and was released from jail on December 2015. He had to surrender on January 15, this year but he jumped parole.

On April 19, he reached New Friends Colony from where he was apprehended. Initially sensing some trouble, he tried to flee away, but was promptly apprehended by the team.
