Cricket betting syndicate busted, 3 arrested

To lead a lavish lifestyle, three men, all class XII dropouts started a betting racket to make some extra money in order to fulfill their desires. Delhi Police busted this cricket syndicate during one of the matches this year in the ongoing South Africa vs England ODI series and recovered Rs 1 crore, 42 lakh. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the case and have been identified as Gurdeep (29), Gitesh (26) and Tinka (26). Police have also recovered one LCD TV, 12 mobile phones, a laptop etc. According to the police, one of their sub-inspectors got a tip off about the betting syndicate which was operational from a house in the Nehru Vihar and a raid was conducted. “During investigation, the accused revealed that two mobile phones were used as Dabbas for receiving the rates and the other mobile phones were being used for accepting bets. The total amount recovered till the time the raid was conducted was found to be approximately Rs. 1 crore and 42 lacs,” said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North). A case has been registered at the Timarpur police station under relevant sections of the IPC.
