CPWD directed to expedite Supreme Court building project

Expressing concern over delay in construction of two additional office complexes for the Supreme Court, urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to expedite the projects.

While inspecting the progress on the two projects, Naidu directed that the revised dates for completion of works on these projects should be met without fail.

The Rs 884 crore additional office complex is coming up opposite the Supreme Court, according to a senior urban development official.

Sanctioned in July, 2012 by the ministry of law & justice, the complex was to be completed in three
years, but only 14 per cent of the work has so far been completed.

With a proposed built up area of 1,80,845 sq mt, the complex coming up in an area of over 12 acres, will be used for offices, storage of records, library, auditorium/seminar hall, conference halls, litigants hall and parking. Under the project, an underground passage to connect existing Supreme Court building and the new complex beneath Mathura Road is also to be built.
