The premier varsity has been further embarrassed following a CBI rap for not taking action against Gupta despite the fact that the university was aware off UGC-NET fund embezzlement case.
Given the fact that DU vice chancellor Dinesh Singh, whose role in the matter is also under the scanner, was provided with all the information about of the UGC-NET fund scam by advocate Parul Rana, the complainant in the matter. The varsity rather than taking necessary action against Gupta is buying time by playing letter writing game. When contacted, university spokesperson Malay Neerav said, ‘Delhi University is bound by its statutes and ordinances and the needful is being done in the matter.’
The court, while dismissing the revision petition filed by principal SP Gupta, observed that there was no merit in the case. Sessions judge Narinder Kumar also mentioned that even after submission of all the required papers to Maurice Nagar police station, DCP, Civil Lines and commissioner of police, the SHO and other senior police officers, including DCP, no action was taken on the complaint nor the complainant was informed about the status of probe on his complaint.
‘In the given facts and circumstances, police should have apprised the complainant of the action taken on his complaint and not kept him in dark for such a long time (from 30 May 2014), particularly when he alleges to have taken up matter with senior police officers after having reported the same by way of complaints,’ said the court order.
Meanwhile, complainant Parul Rana said, ‘In an eyewash, the VC has again written a letter to chairman of college Governing Body on 28 October to take necessary action in the matter. The move clearly shows the reluctant approach of VC in initiating any action against Gupta and his team. It loudly tells the story of connivance of DU VC in the whole matter.’ It is pertinent to mention here that Governing Body (GB) had on 19 October passed a resolution that since the complaint of Parul Rana has also mentioned connivance of previous and present chairpersons and some members of GB, thus it was requested that the VC to look into the matter immediately as it is a university maintained college.
‘As per Delhi University rules and regulations, the VC enjoys supreme power in the matters of university maintained colleges. It’s VC’s prerogative to take action or not against any member of the college, but hence the role of VC is also under scanner in the Rs 1.50 UGC fund scam, why would he stir the hornets’ nest?’ opined Inder Mohan Kapahy, a senior teacher leader.
