The bail application of disgraced former Madhya Pradesh finance minister Raghavji, who was arrested on sodomy charges was rejected by a local court on Thursday.
Raghavji’s bail plea was rejected by ninth additional district session judge Sanjeev Kalgaonkar, ruling that charges against him were of a serious nature and since he was an influential person who held important posts for a long time, he may try to destroy evidence against him.
Besides, releasing him on bail at this juncture would also send a wrong message to society that the law is not equal for all, the judge said.
Raghavji was arrested on 9 July from a flat in Koh-e-Fiza area and remanded to jail under judicial custody till 22 July.
His servant, Rajkumar Dangi alleged that Raghavji had been to sodomising him for the last three-and-a-half years, after promising him a government job.
