Special court on Monday to deliver the order on the bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar. Kumar is presently in judicial custody in Tihar jail along with six other bureaucrats and businessmen arrested on the charge of their alleged involvement in a corruption case.
CBI claims to have completed the investigation into the matter but has opposed his bail plea on the ground that he could threaten the witnesses to withdraw their statements. “We have evidence that they (accused) are threatening the witnesses. Kumar’s bail will create an intimidating atmosphere for the witnesses,” CBI told the Judge Arvind Kumar opposing the bail application. The agency also claimed that if bail is granted at this stage, Kumar ‘may tamper with the evidence’. “The money trail is still left to be probed and the investigation is at its crucial stage,” said the agency claiming it has received complaints regarding the threat to witnesses. Kumar’s counsel, however, denied any threat given to witnesses and demanded bail on medical grounds. “Also, he is required to be present with his daughter to take care of her as she is seriously ill at the moment,” argued Kumar’s counsel.
