Couple, on cusp of marriage, engulfed by fire in their car

On Wednesday morning a soon-to-be married couple suffered from serious burn injuries, while their Maruti Zen car caught fire in Vasant Vihar area of south Delhi. The 26-year-old man suffered 95% burns whereas his partner was discharged after receiving first aide on her 5% burn injuries.
The incident took place at around 11.45 am opposite DLF on Nelson Mandela Road in Vasant Vihar when the couple was going for shopping. While driving towards Sarojini Nagar market the car - Maruti Zen (Petrol) model number 2001 went in flames and the doors got anti-lock. ‘The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. But the prima facie states that the fire broke out due to a short circuit,’ an official in the fire department said.
The victim has been identified as Giriraj (26), a resident of Bijwasan in south-west Delhi who received 95% burn injuries. He works as a driver. His girlfriend Preeti (22) received 5% burn injuries was a resident of Vasant Kunj. She was pursuing her graduation from Delhi University.
On Sunday, the couple was supposed to perform pre-marriage function as their marriage date was in March. They couple were having a relationship from past few years. After the approval of their parents, they decided to get married.
