Congress councillors created a ruckus at the house meeting of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, accusing the BJP-led municipal corporation of making ‘false promises’ to woo voters ahead of polls.
The councillors were specifically referring to the policy NDMC has launched recently where the building plan will be sanctioned within seven days for a plot with an area under 100 square meters.
The opposition argued that it is not under the jurisdiction of NDMC to introduce this policy.
Amendments have to be made in the master plan in this regard. ‘The NDMC is cheating people by making these false promises. It doesn’t have the authority to make the amendments in master plan of Delhi’, said Mukesh Goel, leader of opposition in NDMC.
He also added that the corporation had introduced various welfare schemes in the past but they have never been initiated.
Councillors of both parties engaged in sloganeering and blamed each other for not letting the house function. While the Congress councillors held placards reflecting BJP’s failed schemes, the BJP councillors were holding placards condemning the Aam Admi Party’s (AAP) protest outside BJP’s headquarters, which turned violent.
Meera Aggarwal, leader of the house in NDMC, said, ‘the attack on the BJP office by the supporters of AAP is against the principals of a political party. This is the joint effort of Congress and AAP.
Congress is secretly supporting the AAP in holding these illegal demonstrations and engaging in violence.’
Meanwhile, amid the ruckus, BJP councillors unanimously passed the resolution asking for the cancellation of registration of AAP as a political party for engaging in violence and breaching the model code of conduct.
Mayor Azad Sigh suspended Bawana councillor Devender Kumar for three house meetings, for allegedly using abusive language against him.
