Could PSO have helped track Gopal Kanda?

In what may be considered a clear sign of Delhi police’s unwillingness to apprehend Gopal Goyal Kanda and lack of coordination between them and their Haryana counterparts, a senior police officer said that ‘they were still not sure whether Kanda has his personal security officer (PSO) with him or not’. Kanda was booked for abetting suicide and criminal intimidation after Gitika Sharma, a former airhostess and employee at the Kanda-owned MDLR airlines hanged herself on 4 August and blamed Kanda for her death in her suicide note.

Sources said that his PSO could have been a vital source of tracking Kanda had the Delhi police attempted to approach him. ‘Kanda’s security (which he was entitled to as the state minister) was withdrawn on 6 August, the day he resigned. However, even after six days Delhi police is not sure about the status of his PSO.’

When Millennium Post contacted P. Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (north-west), to know the current status of the PSO staff, he said, ‘We are still investigating and trying to find out whether the PSO staff is with Kanda or not.’

At various places across the country raids are being conducted to nab Kanda and to collect evidence related to the case, including Park Plaza hotel in Delhi. ‘We have conducted raids in the Park Plaza hotel as well. But as of now, we have not gathered any specific evidence against him,’ said Karunakaran.

On Sunday, the Delhi Police also searched the office of MDLR Airlines. The search was carried out along with Aruna Chadha, the co-accused with Kanda, who is booked for abetting suicide as well as for criminal conspiracy. Police have taken a few files and CDs into their custody. Delhi Police, who raided the MDLR office remained for more than two hours in the company. And the team was accompanied by women police officers as well.

The raid at Gurgaon in the MDLR office was led by R P Yadav, senior inspector of Bharat Nagar police station. ‘A few CDs, documents and files have been taken into custody from the MDLR office in the Old Judicial Complex in Sector-15 of Gurgaon,’ a police official said.

According to the police, apart from the MDLR office in Gurgoan, Chadha was also taken to few more places.

Aruna Chadha’s remand has been extended for one more day with the Delhi Police. On Sunday evening, Chadha was produced in court. Delhi Police demanded her custody for five more days to collect more evidences from the MDLR office but the court has extended the custody for one more day only.

Earlier, she was under two-day police remand and on Saturday, her remand was extended by one more day.
