The issue of merging the World Bank initiated India Population Project (IPP) VIII with the Maternity & Child Welfare (M&CW) department of civic bodies created an uproar in the meeting of the Standing Committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) on Thursday. Leaders cutting across party line demanded strict action against those responsible for overruling the decision of the Standing Committee to merge the international project, after MIllennium POst carried a report on Thursday.
‘I came about the issue only after reading it in the newspaper today. I will inquire into the matter and submit the report in the next meeting of the standing committee,’ said Deepak Hastir, additional commissioner (Health) of NDMC. The issue was raised in the meeting of the standing committee by the Leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel. ‘It’s a complete case of neglecting the decision of standing committee and burying a project meant for poor people. The commissioner must submit a report specifically mentioning that who gave the approval for the merger and who passed the concerned order,’ said Goel.
Speaking on the issue B P Pandey, deputy chairman of the standing committee in NDMC demanded strict action against the concerned officials.
