Cops seize 99 Munger-made illegal pistols in capital

In a major catch, the Delhi police has seized 99 pistols meant for various criminal gangs operating in and around the national capital. The pistols were made in Munger in Bihar, the place from where the accused in the Pune Blast case had also allegedly sourced their weapons

Two men, one identified by his second name Mishra and Firoz Alam were arrested from Sonia Vihar area here on Tuesday evening along with the cache of weapons concealed in the car used by them, a senior police officer said on Wednesday. The two are originally residents of Munger, in Bihar. ‘The pistols were kept in cavities created behind the headlights of the car. 198 magazines were also recovered. The weapons were made in Bihar’s Munger district,’ said Sanjeev Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).

Alam and Mishra used to sell illegal weapons for Rs.20,000-25,000. Earlier, they had sold 80 pistols manufactured in Munger to a person identified as Hazi, a native of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh.
Further probe is on in the case. It has been learnt that illegal firearms are delivered to contacts in Delhi and NCR through Niranjan Mishra and Mohd. Firoz Alam. They supply weapons to almost every part of the country. It has also been revealed that the two supply at least one such consignment every month to Meerut, Muzaffarnagar and Delhi NCR.

Munger has lately emerged as the hub of contraband weapons in the country, with pistols manufactured in the illegal factories there even founding their way to Indian Mujahideen terrorists, police sources said. After the attack on the Jama Masjid in the national capital, it had been revealed that the guns used in the attack were made in Bihar’s Munger area. Earlier, investigators had recovered illegal weapons made in Munger from  five persons arrested in connection with Pune blasts.

On terrorists going for country-made weapons, an official had claimed, ‘A country-made pistol manufactured in Munger is as good as a sophisticated one.’ According to him, 130 pistols made in Munger were seized by the Delhi police last year while the figure for this year stands at about 60.
