Active patrolling by Delhi police has saved a girl child from being sexually assaulted by a 35-year-old man in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area. The girl was rescued by two cops who were passing near the scene of the crime and nabbed the accused.
According to the police, the incident took place late evening on Monday, when the accused identified as Nasarudin, a resident of Khirki Extension, lured a six-year-old girl, who was unknown to her. He took her to an isolated place and tried to assault her. But before he could sexually assault the girl, two cops passing near the area nabbed him.
A police official at Malviya Nagar police station said, ‘Nasarudin was found under the influence of alcohol and when he was nabbed red-handed, a mobile phone was recovered from him.’ The girl told the police that the man had lured her by promising her chocolates and crackers if she accompanied him to his house nearby. Attracted towards this offer, she agreed to go along with him.
‘Around midway, he pulled her in his arms saying that his residence is bit far away so she might get tired of walking,’ the official said quoting the victimised minor girl. Meanwhile, they arrived at an isolated place surrounded with trees and bushes came, where the accused tried to assault her.
In the meantime, finding their daughter missing, who was playing outside her residence in Jhuggi cluster in Khirki Extension, a man-hunt was started by her family and neighbours. Fortunately the cops who were patrolling in the area saw the moving bushes and on suspicion they decided to search the place.
The policemen were shocked to witness the scene but were thankful that they saved a girl child before any heinous crime could take place. Within a fraction of seconds, few persons who were carrying out a man-hunt to look for the missing girl, reached the spot.
After nabbing the accused, the family along with the victim went to the police station to lodge an FIR. A case under the appropriate sections of the POSCO Act, including attempt to sexual assault, has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station.
The accused Nasarudin has been arrested and the girl, in a traumatised state, has been handed over to her family. Nasarudin works in a factory in the area and resides with his wife and two children.
