The Delhi Police on Thursday gave a clean chit to the East Delhi MP Maheish Girri and Vice-Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council Karan Singh Tanwar in the MM Khan murder case.
The AAP accused both the leaders of sheltering the accused and conspiring to murder Khan, an NDMC estate officer. Khan was allegedly shot dead by a hotel owner in Connaught Place for refusing to protect his interests in a bribe. “We investigated the matter thoroughly and there is no evidence of conspiracy of any kind from these two senior BJP leaders,” said a senior police officer. The police officers cleared these two leaders of all charges. However, addressing a press meet, AAP Convenor Dilip Pandey said the police were under continuous pressure as the BJP is the ruling party and demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.
“A few days before his murder, Tanwar had threatened Khan. If Tanwar is not arrested, we will believe that the BJP is guilty of Khan’s murder,” he said. He went on to say that Tanwar bribed Ramesh Kakkar to eliminate Khan. The latter’s murder has highlighted the deep-rooted corruption in one of the country’s biggest civic bodies. For three decades, the NDMC has been subject to various instances of corruption, mostly involving real estate and building construction issues. He added that the BJP ministers must not make the Delhi Police their “spokesperson”.
Meanwhile, Girri has asked Kejriwal for a public debate over his allegations in Khan’s murder. He in his letter written on Thursday to Kejriwal invited him to Constitutional Club to produce “evidence” he had against him on Sunday at 4 pm.
