Cops rubbish lawyer’s claims of assaulting Kanhaiya in sting op

Delhi Police rubbished the tall claims made by the three advocates of Patiala House Courts in a sting operation that they have assaulted JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar in the court complex on last Wednesday.

A police official close to the investigation of the JNU row said: “It’s all fake. All the claims made by Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma are false. These lawyers are doing it to attain publicity.”

It is important to mention that the official, who is of ACP rank, who does not wish to be named, was present inside the court premises on last Wednesday when Kanhaiya was produced and sent to judicial custody. Soon after Kanhaiya entered inside the court premises he was attacked by a group of advocates. In a bid to protect Kanhaiya from being lynched by the men in black, some policemen were also injured. The Supreme Court immediately directed Delhi Police chief to provide safety to Kanhaiya, his lawyers and family members who were present in the court.

“All the senior police officials including the two Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Range and South-Eastern Range) reached the court within few minutes of the order. Further, after the hearing was completed and he was sent to judicial custody, we waited inside the court room so that the police force deployed outside the premises could clear the way. And it took around three hours to do all the necessary arrangements. Till then Kanhaiya was with us,” the official said. He said he was escorted by the police and there was an order by the Supreme Court thus rubbishing claims of advocates assaulting him for ‘three’ hours. As soon as Kanhaiya reached Tihar, a medical examination was conducted to ascertain the injuries received during the attack by the advocates (that was captured in media cameras). Even the medical report shows that he got minor injuries.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Additional DCP (New Delhi) Deepak Gauri said: “We have seen the sting operation and are probing the claims made by them.” When asked whether they will be booked under the IPC on the basis of the confession made, he said: “The probe is on and it’s too early to say anything.”
