All four accused apprehended in connection with the firing at a courtroom, in which a police official died, turned out to be juveniles “hired” for killing an under-trial prisoner, following which the police are looking for a co-conspirator based in Bulandshahr. It took around 24 hours for the police to cross check records and ascertain the age of the assailants, who had claimed to be juveniles, following their detention after the incident at East Delhi’s Karkardooma court on Wednesday, said a police official. The entire plan was allegedly masterminded by a North-east Delhi-based gangster named Naseer, who is presently lodged in a jail in connection with a murder case. Naseer had a grudge against the under-trial, Irfan, who had allegedly killed one of his prime aids, said the official. While the under-trial, the actual target, sustained two bullets in Wednesday’s firing and is presently admitted in a hospital, the police head constable, Ram Kanwar Meena, who had been escorting him died after being hit by four bullets, the official said.
Teams will be sent to Bulandshahr to look for the co-conspirator. The police are also gathering evidences, after which they are likely to book Naseer in the case, the official added. Meanwhile, it has also come to fore that the 3rd Battalion of Delhi Police, entrusted with transport of prisoners between prisons, courts and medical facilities, had communicated to the court conveying threat to the life of Irfan and requested for hearings through video conferencing. However, the proposal was pending till Wednesday. The entire incident throws light at the dismal state of security at the court complex where around 100 CCTV cameras are installed out of which 86 CCTV cameras do not work.
