Cops nabbed the mastermind of Janakpuri kidnapping case

The master mind behind a kidnapping for ransom was arrested by the Delhi police on Thursday.

The accused Meenu Kumar aka Monu, along with his associate Babita, were arrested near an Indian Oil petrol pump, at MG Road in Prahlad Pur, Delhi. They were wanted for kidnapping a boy from Janakpuri.

On 21 October, Ashish Grover, of Janakpuri had reported that his son was missing. He  runs a mobile shop in Janakpuri. He had received a call from his wife Mitali Grover that their son Pranav was missing.

When he went home, he was told by his neighbour, Krishan Sehgal, that he had seen Pranav with their maid Babita, who had taken the boy along on the pretext of buying a carrom board for him. When they did not return till evening, the parents lodged a complaint at the Janakpuri police station. ‘The boy was rescued from Uttar Pradesh within 72 hours, along with two accused, Ravi and Veer Pal Singh,’ said a Police official. ‘But the mastermind Meenu Kumar aka Monu and his associate Babita managed to abscond,’ he added.

The police had formed a team and had monitored the phone numbers of both Meenu Kumar and Babita. Eventually they were arrested on Thursday, near the Indian Oil petrol pump on MG Road.

‘Both Meenu Kumar and Babita had fallen in love with each other after separating from their respective spouses and they planned to kidnap a child from a rich family so that huge money could be earned as ransom,’ said V Renganathan, Additional Commissioner of police (west district).
