Cops issue 2,000 challans since May 16 in Gurgaon to auto-rickshaws

Acting on the complaints received from commuters about auto drivers in Gurgaon, the traffic police launched a special drive against auto-rickshaw drivers under which they have challaned more than 2,000 auto drivers. Various reasons for these challans have been cited. The figure seems shocking because these challans have been issued after the drive was undertaken on May 16.

The statistics received from the challan department shows that there are over 15,200 autos, including 7,200 CNG ones which contributes to the overall traffic of the city. However, most of them have been booked for overcharging, overloading, road rage and not abiding by the Motor Vehicle Act. This action of challaning the drivers were taken after a number of workshops to discipline them failed. The drivers are being challaned for not carrying proper documents, not wearing uniform besides flouting rules and harassing passengers.
