Cops identify 1 accused in hotel owner’s murder

Though the murderers of the 60-year-old hotel owner in Lajpat Nagar could be not identified due to a non-functional CCTV camera, Delhi Police have reportedly identified one of the five accused and hope to arrest him by Wednesday night.

On Monday night, a group of four men had gone to eat in a restaurant in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar 3 area when they got into a heated argument with the staff over bill amounting to Rs 1,085. The incident took place at around 10.15 pm when the deceased, Vasudeo alias Pappu, owner of the eatery tried to intervene when his staff called him in a bid to handle the group of customers. After paying a sum of Rs 1000, they left only to return at 11 pm, police said.

Police further said that within a few minutes, the group of four returned with another man. Looking for Pappu, one of them pulled out a gun and fired in the air. When Vasudeo stepped forward to confront the group, one of them, who was wearing a white T-shirt, allegedly shot two bullets in Pappu’s chest. After firing, they fled in their Maruti Swift car. Although the eatery staff raised an alarm and cops who were present tried to nab the accused, they managed to flee.

Senior police officer, privy to the investigation told Millennium Post: “We have identified one of the accused with the help of call detail records and the CCTV footage of the road through which the accused fled with their Maruti Swift car.”

Moreover, the officer said, “We identified the accused mainly because of the dump calls which were recorded by the telecom tower in that area. We also managed to identify the car’s registration number, except for two digits in the last four-digit part.”
