The Delhi Police on Monday arrested a final-year B.Sc (Hons) student from Punjab for allegedly stalking, morphing pictures of schoolgirls in West Delhi's Kirti Nagar area.
The police said the accused was identified as Jagdeep Singh (22). Investigators said Singh first created a fake Facebook account, posing as a girl, and befriended girls.
After winning their trust, he allegedly downloaded their photographs from their Facebook pages. He, then, created another fake account, that of a man. He allegedly used this account to blackmail the girls with their morphed photos and asked them for sexual favours.
Three months ago, the accused allegedly created a fake ID on Facebook and sent a 14-year-old girl her morphed photograph. The girl’s family reported the matter to the police.
Senior police officials said Singh had done the same with three other girls, but only one girl came forward.
The police decided to catch the accused red-handed and laid a honey-trap. A police team lured Singh online and began chatting with. “Our team contacted Singh using the victim’s profile and asked him on a date. We laid a honey-trap and arrested him,” said a police official, investigating the case.
Singh told the police that he had been carrying out such activity for the past six months and three to four girls had fallen in his trap.
Police said a case under Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) was filed against Singh. The cellphone from which the accused used to access the social networking site and printouts of the victim’s photographs were recovered from his possession, said police. The girl who came forward is going to be rewarded, said police.
