Cop’s chopped body found on rail track

The body of a sub-inspector in Delhi police was found in pieces on a railway track near Welcome area, late on Wednesday night. The Railway police was informed by a passerby about the body.

Police found an identity card from the pocket of the deceased, with the help of which he was identified as Rohit Srivastav, 29, who was posted as a sub-inspector with Krishna Nagar police station of east Delhi.

‘The incident took place around 9 pm. His body was found few meters away from the Shahdara railway station in east Delhi. Srivastav had joined the police in 2008. In 2010, he got married to one Manju, who is pregnant and is in a state of shock ever since hearing the unfortunate news. Reportedly, Manju had talked to her husband minutes before his death, said a senior police official.

Srivastav colleagues, who are also posted in the same police station, claimed that he was depressed for quite some time and had not even been reporting to duty for the last two weeks. On Wednesday morning, he arrived to the police station to inform the station house officer that he will join  work from Thursday. Before leaving for home, he completed his pending complaints.

The official added that no suicide note was recovered from the crime scene, so there is a possibility that he might have died in an accident. ‘We are investigating the matter from all plausible angles,’ he added. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
