Cops bust online lottery racket, five arrested

Delhi Police busted an online lottery racket with the arrest of five persons including four Nigerian nationals and one Indian. Sleuths of the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the East district, who unearthed the racket, found that the gang had cheated more than 500 people. According to the police, the accused have been identified as Daniel Charles Tomil (32), William Zino Odafe (33). Out of the accused, there are two women identified as Amenze Lilian Aiwekhoe (35) and Marian Ebis (28) and their Indian associate, Sudhir Kumar Bisht. Senior police officers of the East district said that they have recovered 996 SIM cards of Indian mobile service providers, 18 SIM cards of Nigeria, six Nigerian passports, six passbooks of different banks, cheque books, debit and credit cards, seven pen drives, 49 mobile phones, data cards, and bluetooth devices-cum-pen drives. Police added that they also recovered one Polo Volkswagen car from the accused possession.
Police said that on July 18, they received a complaint from one person named Bhupinderjit, regarding how he had been cheated of Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of winning sumptuous amount in an online lottery game. In his complaint, he stated that he was lured by the accused to part away with Rs 60 lakh to claim the amount of a mega online lottery. Based on Bhupinderjit’s complaint, a case was registered at the Anand Vihar police station.
“During investigation, through technical intelligence and local intelligence, we zeroed down on Bisht as one of the suspects. Based on the Call Details Records, police raided a flat in Janakpuri from where Sudhir Kumar Bisht along with Tomil and Odafe were apprehended. On their instance, two other accused were later arrested from Dwarka,” said a senior police officer.
