The accused have been identified as Hamid Ali (32), Hussain (32), Jai Bhagwan Das (25) and Arbid Khan (22). Special Task Force of the south district along with the Vasant Vihar police formed teams and based on information from informers traced the accused based on the study of the modus operandi used by the culprits, said police.
According to the police, based on an input, they apprehended Hamid Ali, the kingpin who further disclosed that he and his accomplices, Gulsher and Prahlad have been involved in many cases of robbery and cheating in Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
“The accused revealed that they used to organise magic shows on road and used to cheat people on the pretext of doubling their cash through magical powers. Innocent people got trapped in their net and handed over their cash or jewellery to them to get it doubled.
During this period, accused persons used to keep the cash and jewelry with them and ask the targeted person to move 100 steps in a particular direction without watching back. As soon as that person moves towards the given direction, they would escape from the spot with cash and jewelry in their Eeco car, which they used to park nearby,” said a senior police official.
