Cops attacked during arms raid in Birbhum

Two police officers were attacked by unidentified assailants armed with crude bombs, lathis and other arms in Parui on Friday. The police reportedly fired to disperse the attacking mob. The two officers were seriously injured and admitted to the Suri district hospital.

The officers were attacked after acting on information that a major cache of crude bombs was being stored in the state-run primary health centre in the Parui area of Birbhum.  The police have cordoned off the health centre. The identity of the attackers or their political affiliation is not yet clear.  The OC, Prosenjit Dutta has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Suri Hospital with splinter injuries.

Ananda Roy, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Birbhum district, said that a strong police contingent led by the OC had raided Chakmondola village and seized bombs.
