The Delhi Police have now announced a reward money of Rs 1 lakh on ex-MLA Rambeer Shokeen’s arrest who evaded arrested earlier due to inaction by cops.
Last year, Delhi Police declared him a proclaimed offender and charge-sheeted him and eight other accused under the provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for allegedly running an organised crime syndicate. In February, Shokeen’s anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by a Delhi court.
The charge-sheet said he, along with eight other accused, including his nephew Neeraj Bawana were running an organised crime syndicate which was extorting money and committing murders, grabbing land and settling property disputes, all aimed at pecuniary benefits. Shokeen is also wanted by the Baghpat Police and the senior police officials have constantly raised questions on the casual approach and inaction in the case. When Shokeen was easily available, despite his name cropping up in the investigation, Special Cell did not question him even once. After a few months, when he did not join the probe, Baghpat Police summoned him and later he was declared proclaimed offender by the Delhi Police. According to a source, Shokeen is currently hiding in Nepal and is not in touch with any of his family members, relatives or other gang members. A senior police official in Baghpat, requesting anonymity, on Friday, blamed the Delhi Police for helping him evade the arrest and no heed was paid on the matter until he managed to escape. Shokeen has been accused of hatching a conspiracy to free a notorious criminal Amit Malik, alias Bhura, from police custody in Baghpat. Bhura was later arrested.
During a raid in April, a stolen AK-47 and a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) were recovered from a plot, owned by Shokeen, in West Delhi’s Bawana area. These weapons were stolen from the police team in Baghpat while freeing Bhura. It is important to mention here that Baghpat police had asked Delhi Police to either investigate or detain Shokeen as his name cropped up in the investigation conducted by police officials of both the states but Delhi Police have paid no heed and stayed mum on the matter until Shokeen managed to escape.
