Cop shoots self, critical

A 26-year-old Delhi police constable shot himself with his service revolver inside a police post in New Delhi’s Barakhamba Road on Sunday morning. However, no suicide note has been recovered from his possession.

The victim has been identified as Vipin Tomar, a resident of East Muzzafarnagar and was staying at the police barracks for three years in Paharganj area. He joined the Delhi Police force in 2010.

According to police officials, his marriage was fixed on February 10, this year. The incident took place at around 8:10 am when he was on his duty. He went to Barakhamba Road police station and issued his service revolver. Later, he headed towards the police post at Minto Road where he shot himself on his right temple.

Immediately, he was rushed to RML hospital where he is undergoing treatment. “He is in the ICU and his condition is critical,” the police official privy to investigation said. The official added: “It has been learnt that Tomar was depressed with his family issues especially about his marriage.”
