Cop posted at LG house accidently shoots self, family cries foul

A sub-inspector, deployed at the LG Najeeb Jung’s house, accidentally shot himself with his service revolver, on Sunday morning.

Ajit Singh (55) was rushed to the hospital and is said to be out of danger. His family, however alleged that it was a suicide attempt and police have been pressurising them to register it as an accident.
At around 8.20 am on Sunday, when Ajit Singh had just come for his duty at the LG’s house, he accidentally shot himself while putting his service revolver in the holster. The bullet hit him near his waist and he was immediately rushed to the hospital. The doctors operator upon him and he was reported to be out-of-danger.

Ajit’s family alleged that from the past five months he was being pressurised by a senior official to either accept transfer or resign. ‘On Friday, he expressed to his son that due to some personal grudge, he was being pressurised for transfer or resignation by one of his seniors,’ said a relative.

He further said, ‘But we are sure that this isn’t an accident and he had taken this extreme step under immense pressure’ while adding that  the family is being pressurised to accept it as an accident.
Meanwhile, police while ruling out these allegations have booked the officer under section 336 (act endangering life and personal safety of others) of IPC.
