Cop loses leg after being hit by container

Due to rash and negligent driving of a heavy container in Delhi’s South-east district, a head constable of Delhi Police had to loose one of his leg. The incident was reported on Thursday night in Pul Prahladpur area. The driver tried to run away from the spot but was arrested by the cops.

Head Constable Shish Ram was deployed in the night picket duty at CCI, Tughlakabad Village in Govindpuri. On Thursday night, as he joined the night duty at the picket, he tried to cross the road at Mehrauli Badarpur Road and was run over by a speeding container. Though he managed to slip away but could not save his left leg that came under the wheels of the truck. He was rushed to AIIMS trauma center by the fellow policemen.

“I got a call from the Station House Officer at around 2 am. I was told my brother met with an accident and the police have admitted him to the hospital. I didn’t tell his wife and rushed to Delhi. His left leg has to be amputated but at least he is alive,” said Ram Kishan.

The driver of the container tried to flee the spot but was nabbed by the police after a chase.

“We have arrested the driver of the container Raisuddin under relevant sections. Right now our priority is that Shish Ram is given the best of treatment. He underwent a surgery and the doctors had amputate his leg to save his life,” said Rajeev Ranjan Additional DCP South-east. Shish Ram is from Alwar district of Rajasthan. His family stays in Alwar. One of his son is studying in Class XII and the other is in the Border Security Force deployed in Guwahati.
