Cop held for raping 24-year-old woman

A Delhi police constable has been arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman at outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri area.
The accused, Mithun, 21, has been arrested and sent to 14 days judicial custody.
Police said the victim lives with family in a rented house of Mithun’s relative. In her complaint to police, the woman alleged that Mithun had been harassing her for a long time and threatened her many times with dire consequence.
‘On Wednesday, she was alone at her house when the accused barged inside and molested her. When she objected, he beat her up and then raped her,’ said a police official.
When her husband returned home, he found out what had happened and reported the matter to the police. A case of rape was lodged with Sultanpuri after the woman underwent a medical examination at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
‘Investigation was initiated on the basis of the victim’s statement.and after the medical examination confirmed sexual assault,’ the official added. Mithun, a native of Bihar, joined Delhi police in 2010 and was posted to Sultanpuri police station.
