Cop from PM’s security cell robbed at gunpoint in Gurgaon

Cops in Delhi police, who are duty bound to protect the lives of others, have been found vulnerable when it comes to their own security. In a recent incident, a woman constable from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s security cell was robbed at her house in Gurgaon. In the early hours on Friday, around 2 am, four unidentified robbers broke into the house of Usha Kumari, a constable, at Hans Enclave in Gurgaon.

‘All assailants were carrying weapons in their hands and had covered their faces with black cloth.

The noise woke me up and I went outside my bedroom and saw them,’ Kumari told the police.

‘I screamed and my husband, Dilip Kumar, who works with a private firm, woke up. He immediately came out but he was overpowered by the robbers. One of them pointed a pistol at him and asked me to hand over all the cash and jewellery,’ she added.

‘Fortunately, we didn’t have much cash at home. I handed them Rs 15,000 but they demanded more.

They forcibly made us sign a cheque for Rs 31,000, which I was made to draw as ‘self.’

Soon after the incident, Kumari made a PCR call. A case under the section 390 (robbery) of Indian Penal Code has been registered against the four unidentified robbers. ‘We are trying to trace the accused persons on the basis of the cheque that they took with them. We have asked the bank concerned to keep an eye on that particular cheque,’ Maheshwar Dayal, deputy commissioner of police (west) said.

Kumari is with the Prime Minister’s Security Cell for the last one year. She has been staying at Hans Enclave for the last five years with her family. ‘I am lucky that the robbers did not kill us, as they were carrying pistols and knives. Without indulging in any kind of scuffle with them, I handed over whatever they demanded,’ she said.
