Cop caught taking bribe from truck drivers, faces probe

Delhi Police arrested a traffic constable for allegedly taking bribe from truck drivers in the Maurice Nagar area of North Delhi last Friday night.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 10 pm on December 11 when the traffic constable identified as Sudhir Tomar (40) was halting truck drivers near Khalsa College.

A group of three students of the Mansarovar hostel playing cricket in the nearby field saw him taking bribe from truck drivers and recorded a video in their mobile phones.

When Sudhir saw them, he scolded them. In the meantime, an over-speeding truck was stopped at the red light by Sudhir despite the signal clearly showing green. As a result, an over-speeding motorcycle collided with it.

After that the students informed the local police.

Police said that the motorcycle-borne youth suffered major injuries on his face and was taken to Hindu Rao Hospital for treatment and was later shifted to the LNJP hospital. According to the police, the motorcyclist was inebriated as per the medical reports obtained from the first hospital.

According to the police, Tomar has been booked under Section 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC at the Maurice Nagar police station.

According to a senior police official, the traffic constable had been taking bribe from truck drivers as per the complaint of the three students. Since the trucks were stopped in the middle of the road, it caused major inconvenience to the locals of the area.

The official also added that Tomar has been released since the sections under which he was booked were bailable offences. However, they are carrying out a departmental probe against the traffic constable.
