Control room in Writers’ for Gangasagar mela

Bureaucrats of the state Government have been put in charge of the round-the-clock control-room that is being set up under the directive of the CM Mamata Banerjee during the upcoming Gangasagar Mela.

A control room is being set up at Writers’ Buildings and senior IAS officers will be manning this control room along with junior officials of their choice and an IG rank officer of the state police.

This is the first time such a control room has been set up though there have been plenty of mishaps at Gangasagar even at night. The control room will be functioning in two shifts, one during the day and another at night. Apparent;ly, seniority was the sole criterion for deciding on who would be there during the day and who would be in charge during the night.

The CM has apparently instructed secretaries not to go on leave or leave the headquarters even on official work in view of the Gangasagar Mela between 11 Jan and 16 Jan.

Ministers and seniors officials save those directed by the CM to be present at the site are also barred from visiting it during the mela days. This is because she believes that this would create problems.
