Construction workers to get passbooks as ID proof

National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), a government of India enterprise under the aegis of the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), on Tuesday facilitated the distribution of pass book on behalf of the Labour department to the unorganised construction workers.
The passbook will work as unique identity card for construction workers to give them access to various welfare schemes of the state government pertaining to education, medical, loan, pension schemes, and other social and financial benefits. The passbooks, which comprise details of the family members of the beneficiaries, were distributed among 100 workers as a token.
Seven meritorious students were awarded scholarships for higher education. Â
Secretary, Urban Development, Sudhir Krishna, highlighted social security supports such as funding of education, scholarships, marriages and so on. Passbook holders are entitled to avail cashless medical facility till the limit of Rs 30,000/- and Rs 500- 1,000 as pension after attaining 60 years.
Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD), NBCC, Vishnu P Das said workers were valued resources for infrastructure industries.
