According to police, the arrested constable, identified as Naresh Kumar, was posted at Mayur Vihar police station.
Police said the complainant is a friend of the detainee, who was taken into custody on May 17. When he went to enquire about his friend’s detention, the complainant was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 20,000 by the constable.
“After negotiating, Kumar finally fixed an amount of Rs 7,000. Subsequently, the complainant gave Rs 5,000 on the same day and the rest of the amount was to be handed over to Kumar on the next day,” said a senior police official.
