Constable shot dead, assailants at large

On Monday, a Delhi police constable was shot dead by two unidentified men outside his residence in east Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar area. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Gali No 1 in Jyoti Nagar when Shivraj Singh was going to meet someone. Singh (45) was posted as a constable at Jaffrabad police station and had been residing in Jyoti Nagar area with his family. According to the police, he was shot dead outside his residence by two unidentified men who came on a motorcycle.

Eyewitnesses told police that two men wearing helmets came on a motorcycle and approached Singh who was in his civil. The two men got into a heated argument with Singh that turned violent and one of the bike-borne men opened fire at Singh and fled away. Police said, Shivraj died on the spot.
During investigation it came to light that he was shot at close range and an empty bullet shell has been recovered from the crime spot. Singh was hit by a bullet in the chest and due to excess bleeding he died on the spot. 

When a police team reached the spot, he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His family members were immediately informed about the incident. He is survived by wife and a son. Initial investigation hint at personal enmity as the cause of the murder but investigation is on to ascertain the real cause behind the murder. ‘Call details of the constable are being looked at, also his friends and colleagues are being questioned,’ a police official said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the autopsy report is awaited.
